The Friends of St Cross Hospital Winchester is an independent charity established in 2011. Our main objects are to:
- Assist the Trustees of the Hospital in funding the maintenance of the property and ground-works within the Hospital precincts.
- Organize activities to widen the appreciation of the historical and architectural significance of the Hospital buildings and gardens, and to support the Hospital’s role as an active community of Brothers.
Note from our Chairman – Richard Chisnell
Since our Launch, as a Friends Charity, in September 2011, we have been delighted to welcome some 350 memberships across our individual, joint/family and corporate categories, involving nearly 500 individual Friends.
Our Members are both local and from other parts of Hampshire and beyond, all of whom are keen to help preserve one of Britain’s finest heritage jewels here in Winchester.
St Cross is one of the oldest Almshouses in the UK with 24 Brothers currently resident in the “Almshouse of Noble Poverty”
The Friends of St Cross Hospital has an active management team and a busy event programme each year, designed not only to allow the development of a happy, social network of Friends but also to assist our fundraising efforts through the year.
We were very pleased to be able to donate £9000 to the Hospital Trustees in our first year, towards the upkeep of the Hospital buildings, most of which date back almost 900 years.
Please consider joining our Friends network and, by so doing, help contribute to the maintenance of this iconic Institution. You will be playing your part in the continuing history of this special place.
